It is with profound sorrow that the family of Walter Derksen announces his passing on the evening of Friday, July 22, 2016 in Edmonton, AB.

Walter was born on March 8, 1928 in Plum Coulee, MB to Agatha and Peter Derksen. He married the love of his life Mary Ellen Bennett on July 21, 1952. They had 4 children.

Walter enjoyed curling, golf, travelling, cribbage, playing pool and 8 ball, most card games and a good game of scrabble but his passion was bridge. He learned the game as a young boy in his childhood home, and bridge was HIS GAME. He played at the Edmonton Bridge Centre and ANYWHERE he could get in on a hand of bridge or duplicate bridge until very recently. He was meticulous in keeping up his yard, puttered endlessly, fixed EVERYTHING he possibly could and enjoyed kibitzing with his neighbours in Argyll, Duggan and in the past 12 plus years at the Renaissance at Meadowlark.

Walter will be lovingly missed by his beloved wife Ellen, sons Ian, Eric (Jaci White) and Brian (Susan), daughter Val Charbonneau (Brian Jones), grandchildren Daniel, Ashley (Michael) McKeever, Robert (Krista Boons), Melanie, Carmen and Jessica (Gaven) Prince, great grandchildren Nathan and Lily, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Agatha and Peter Derksen, brother Peter, much loved sister Eleanor Owen, in-laws Donald and Louise Bennett, Joanne and Dennis Jones, Howard and Marjorie Bennett, and niece Joanne Bennett.

A celebration of Walter`s life will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at the Renaissance at Meadowlark Amenities Building (89th Avenue and 156th Street in the centre building – South of the Jasper Place Library) from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
