<div itemprop="description">The family of Joe Ostlund are saddened to announce his passing at the age of 90 after a brief stay in hospital. <br /> <br />Lovingly remembered by his wife of 66 years, Alice, and their children: Rodger (Gail) and his daughter Leah, Joann and her children Carrie Bellavance (Garry), Erin Thomas (Cam), Gordon and Alison McLeod (Jason), Gerald (Michelle) and his children Matthew (Sarah) and Jessica (Stanko), Kathryn Holmes (Brian) and their children Alexis Bogda (Chris), Kerry, and Nick. Four great-grandchildren, Cody, Curtis (Randelle), Shaylene and Riley and 6 great-great grandchildren and sister-in-law May Ostlund and brother in-law Clint Hiles plus numerous nieces and nephews also survive him. <br /> <br />Joe was born in Midale, Saskatchewan to Swedish immigrants, the youngest of 10 children. He joined the navy on his 18th birthday, Aug 9 1943 and served as a signalman on a Corvette escorting merchant convoys across the North Atlantic for the duration of WWII. <br /> <br />Joe and Alice were married in Midale on June 19, 1949 and had four wonderful children over the next five years. <br /> <br />After the war he worked in the automobile business for the duration of his long and successful career; first through a succession of executive positions with Chrysler Corporation then at age 50 taking on the management of the Motor Dealers' Association of Alberta which he grew from a one-man operation into a multi-branched enterprise of over 100 employees. <br /> <br />His career took him on a circuit of moves around the country from Vancouver to southern Ontario to Alberta a few times, ending up with the Association in Edmonton in 1977. He retired at age 68 and enjoyed many years of golf and travel to and from Mesa, Arizona. <br /> <br />Joe was pre-deceased by his mother Hulda and father Emil, brothers Archie (Glenora), Wilfred (Tilly) and sisters Florence Hultgren (Pete), Delila Johnston (Johnny), Ellen (Ted) Lockwood, Dell (Art) Hultrgren, Dorothy (Albert) Erickson, Katherine and Alvira Hiles. <br /> <br />For those who wish to pay their respects, a viewing will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2015 at Glenwod Funeral Home (52356 Range Road 232, Sherwood Park) and a Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Riverbend United Church, (14907 - 45 Avenue, Edmonton.) <br /> <br />In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Riverbend United Memorial Fund or to a charity of one&rsquo;s choice. <br /></div>
