<div itemprop="description">A kind and gentle soul has now embarked on her next journey. Joan Eilleen Smee of Sherwood Park passed away at 91 after a lengthy and courageous battle against many afflictions, including cancer. Thankfully Joan is now at peace and pain-free. <br><br>Joan was predeceased by her husband and childhood sweetheart Horace Herbert (Mac) Smee (Aug 22, 1995). She is survived by her two sons, Barry and Martin, granddaughters Shelly and Tracy, sons-in-law Christian Letnar and Jason Milton, great-grandson Rigel, step-great-grandsons Oskar, Noah, Sacha and James.<br><br>Joan was born and raised in Edmonton (Old Bonnie Doon), married in Fairview AB, and honeymooned at the end of the rail line at that time in Bluesky AB. They lived in Prince George and Vancouver, then returned to Edmonton in 1955. <br><br>Joan will forever be remembered as a kind, gentle, and beautiful little lady by all who knew her. Music was her passion, with many awards for her singing voice over the years. The other love of her life, “Jordie”, a beautiful sheltie, was her steadfast companion. Joan’s fondest memories were of her and Mac’s adventures on the many trips they took to Hawaii and the Caribbean.<br><br>Joan’s greatest gifts were as a loving and devoted mother, her talent as a homemaker, her mastery of traditional cooking, and her professional expertise with regards to retail sales in the family business (The Plate Connection and Gift Connection). <br><br>The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at St. Joseph’s Auxiliary Hospital Palliative Care Hospice unit as well as the three PCA’s from Nurse Next Door for their tireless care and compassion. <br><br>A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday March 30, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home (52356 Range Road 232, Sherwood Park, Alberta)<br><br>In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Edmonton Humane Society’s “Jordie Smee” fund.
