<div itemprop="description">SCHMIDT, Elmer<br>March 1, 1929 – January 22, 2017<br>Edmonton, Alberta<br><br>Elmer Schmidt, beloved husband of Adina, passed away on January 22, 2017 at the age of 87 years. In addition to his wife, Elmer is survived by his daughter Debbie (Glen) Campbell, and son Dave (Marilyn); granddaughters Christie (Greg) Wallace, and Jaclyn. Elmer was predeceased by his first wife, Shirley. He will also be fondly remembered by his sister Myrtle (Les) Johnson, his brother Arne (Judy), and their families; as well as by his wife Adina’s daughters and their families, Terry Pitts, Raylene (Raymond) Hale, and Laurie (Harvey) Penner. He is also survived by eight step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. <br><br>Those who knew Elmer, knew of his life-long passion for trains and all things to do with the railroad. He worked as a switch foreman for CP Rail for the majority of his career years until his retirement in 1988. During the last years of work, Elmer served with the United Transportation Union. He was very proud of having the opportunity to represent and advocate for his fellow transportation employees. In his retirement, Elmer enjoyed travelling, square dancing, spending winters in Arizona, golfing, and working with his hands on a number of handyman projects. <br><br>Elmer will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by family and many friends. Our family wishes to extend our sincere gratitude to the staff of Villa Caritas and Extendicare Eaux Claires. We would also like to thank the Sturgeon General Hospital who comforted both Elmer and his family with sensitive care during his last week of life. <br><br>Friends and family are openly invited to attend Elmer’s Memorial Service, Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home (South of Wye Road on Range Road 232, Sherwood Park)<br><br>In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated. <br></div>
