<div itemprop="description">On Saturday June 27th, 2015, Mr. Ralph Schafer (Raphael Schaefer) of Hay Lakes, AB (formally of Sherwood Park, AB) passed away at his home after a long battle with heart disease. He was 83 years old. <br /> <br />Ralph is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Helen; two daughters Carol (Allen) Borys of Hay Lakes; Diana (Brian) Gorgichuk of Slocan B.C; four grandchildren, Melissa Borys, Elisabeth &quot;Lisa&quot; Kelly, Shawna Gorgichuk, Shayne Gorgichuk; eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. <br /><br />Born in Balgonie, Saskatchewan, Ralph was the last surviving child of Valentine and Elizabeth Schaefer (nee Geiger). He was predeceased by his parents Valentine (1982) and Elizabeth (1963), brothers John Peter, Anton, Stephen, Peter, Florian, and sisters Veronica, Clara, Mary, and O&rsquo;tillia &quot;Tillie&quot;.<br /> <br />Ralph was a long-time employee of IPSCO, moving from the Regina Head office to Calgary and Edmonton. An avid inventor, Ralph held numerous patents in the field of Pipe Manufacturing and Inspection. For recreation, Ralph enjoyed camping in the mountains, fishing, gold-panning, slucing and his RC planes<br /> <br />The Funeral Service followed by interment will be held on Monday, July 6th at 2:00 p.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home (south of Wye Road on RGE RD 232, Sherwood Park, AB). <br /><br />Donations in memory of Ralph may be made to the Heart &amp; Stroke Foundation of Alberta<br /></div>
