Linnea Mowat
January 20, 1984 - September 19, 2016
Linnea Dawn Mowat, 32, of Edmonton, Alberta passed away September 19th, 2016. Her long battle with breast cancer ended peacefully with her husband and family by her side. Linnea was born in Edmonton, AB and spent her formative years in Edmonton and Sherwood Park. She attended Salisbury Composite High School and graduated from the University of Alberta (B.Sc., M.Sc.). Her love of nature and the environment led her to her graduate studies at the Experimental Lakes Area in northwestern Ontario. Her time in graduate school and at ELA forged many of her enduring relationships and fondest memories. Her indomitable spirit and zeal will never be forgotten by those who shared this time with her, and the same spirit carried with her throughout her cancer journey. Her bravery and warm heart will not be forgotten.
Linnea is survived by her husband Todd Kemper, her father Robert (step-mother, Paula) Mowat, her stepfather Winston Young and her stepsisters Tasha (Ben) Nolin, Mooi Cheng and step brother Louis (Jamie) Cheng. She was predeceased by her mother Laura Young (nee Guiltner) and grandparents Edna (Roger) L'Heureux, and Dale and Hulda Mowat. Linnea will be fondly remembered by her extended family including her aunts, uncles, and many cousins. Linnea was an only child for Robert and Laura but she had wonderful friends who became her siblings, she will be sadly and forever missed by them.
A celebration of Linnea's life will be held at Glenwood Funeral Home on October 11th at 2pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the International Institute for Sustainable Development – Experimental Lakes Area, or the Alberta Cancer Foundation
