<div itemprop="description">Judy Cathryn Shannon <br> <br>Judy Shannon, beloved wife and mother passed away on November 18, 2016 after a brief but courageous struggle with Cushing’s Syndrome. Judy was 59 years old. <br>She leaves behind her beloved spouse, Kenneth Halbach, her cherished children, Julia and Jacob, her mother Jeanne, her sisters Laurie Shannon and Colleen Prather (Cliff), their son Tavish, and numerous friends and relatives, who will miss her dearly. Judy was pre-deceased by her father, Don Shannon in 1991. <br>Judy was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, moved with her family to Edmonton in 1972, graduated high school, and began working in the credit union system. In 1981, she moved to Toronto, where she met the love of her life, Kenneth. They married in 1985. <br>In 1986, Judy and Kenneth moved to Edmonton, where they established a home and enjoyed many years as a couple. Favorite activities included camping, gardening, and socializing with family and friends. Judy was also an enthusiastic sewist, knitter, cross-stitcher, and cake decorator. With the arrival of Julia in 1998 and Jacob in 2000, Judy and Kenneth dedicated themselves to parenhood. <br>Judy found her calling in life as a Regional Education Officer with the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC). She spent 20 years with the Alliance as an activist and mentor, and delivered countless seminars and workshops with her colleagues across the country. She also developed a passionate interest in women’s issues, social justice, and the political process. <br>Early in life, Judy acquired a love of travel. She explored Europe as a teenager, organized many family vacations to Alberta, the West Coast, Quebec, the Maritimes, California, Florida, and Nicaragua, and in recent years, she travelled with close friends and colleagues to Greece and Turkey. No matter where she vacationed, she loved to swim no matter how cold the water. She was in the process of planning her next big trip with her son to England and Greece. <br>A celebration of Judy’s life will take place on November 29, 10:00 a.m. at the Glenwood Funeral Home, 52356 Range Road 232, Sherwood Park, Alberta. <br>In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to WINhouse in Edmonton Alberta. <br></div>
