<div itemprop="description">Allan John Shemanchuk passed away in Edmonton, Alberta on October 25, 2016 at the young age of 63 years. <br> <br>Allan is predeceased by his Mother Clara who passed away in Lethbridge on October 16, 2016. Allan is survived by his loving children Juliana Eve (John Lester), Joseph Daniel (Genna) and Laura Aileen Gordon (Joel), their mother Carol, Allan’s father Joseph and brother Ronald (Sandy). <br> <br>Allan will forever be lovingly remembered by his six grandchildren Layla, Will and John Gordon; Ella, Brody and Sienna Shemanchuk who all enjoyed Gido’s kind, generous spirit and passion to keep family traditions alive. <br>Allan had a loving and generous heart, and was always giving to others. Much fun, laugher and good times will also be missed by other close family members including Aunts, Uncles, Nieces and Nephews. When our tears dry, we will smile again remembering the adventures and happy times we shared. <br> <br>Allan was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and was the first-born child of Clara and Joseph. Allan spent his school years in Lethbridge and participated in many activities, including football. He went on to earn a Pharmacy Degree at the University of Alberta, where he played Defensive Tackle (# 63) for the Golden Bears from 1969-1974. Allan achieved many awards in University including Rookie of the Year, three-time All-Star and two-time CIAU All-Canadian. After completing University he was drafted by the Edmonton Eskimos. <br> <br>Allan was a well-respected Pharmacist and was loved by his many patients in the community of Sherwood Park. <br> <br>Allan enjoyed volunteering with the Sherwood Park Navy League Cadets. He had a strong interest in the military after serving in the Royal Canadian Navy during High School. He was an avid reader and enjoyed telling stories to his grandchildren. <br> <br>A Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Glenwood Funeral Home, 52356 Range Road 232 (south of Wye Road), Sherwood Park, Alberta between 1:00 and 2:00 pm; the Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 pm, with a reception to follow. <br> <br>You are invited to share in the creation of the site by adding a condolence and any remembrances, photos, and video clips appropriate to the life of Allan Shemanchuk.
